Senior prom, the end of a chapter. This end marks one of the last events you spend as a grade school student. Years pass, and like always, students and staff find themselves emotional from this one night, reminiscing on memories that lasted 13 years. It’s the last time you’ll spend as a student at a school event with your friends as fellow classmates. This milestone event was no different for NAHS seniors.
Prom started at six at Presidential Caterers, a regal and stylish banquet hall, blending beautifully with the Met Gala theme.
NAHS students and their guests looked straight out of a fashion show, with colorful, graceful dresses covered in gems and sparkle, along with polished suits that made every person who wore them look classy.
Spirits were high. Prom is a bittersweet experience for students like Alana Echevarria, who said she’s “excited because I’m moving on, but also sad because I’m moving on.”
Even Dr. McGriff was emotional. “This class, like every class, is always mixed emotions,” he said. “I’m happy for them to be at this point for this great achievement. I’m also very sad because we don’t have enough time with them. This class is very special. They came here during COVID, and they got to see this school change.”
Some seniors were just happy to move on with their lives and start a new chapter.
“It’s like my main journey. I got to express myself,” said Harmony Jackson.
Mariya Morales, who will be attending Hofstra University in the fall for TV Productions and Public Relations, was especially looking towards the next leg of her journey while celebrating in the present.
“I’m ready to explore. Spread my wings more, especially ‘cause I’m going to New York,” she said.
Not only were seniors sharing heavy feelings, but they also had advice that they hope underclassmen will follow. Frantzcesca Delva wants underclassmen to go to class and Emily Rojas Gomez advised to just live in the moment.
Students were also just ready to get out of high school, knowing it had been a good but tiring four years.
“I’m ready for my next steps. High school treated me well, but…,” Romeo Carter said with a shrug, indicating he is ready to move on.
After socializing and eating, the class officers announced the prom king and queen. It was a tense moment as they waited to say who won, but after a few quiet seconds, they crowned Remy Grate and Melany Mosquea.
Mosquea mentioned that she is excited for her future at college, but she was also happy she won the title of prom queen. “I feel really excited because I feel like it’s something you wait for all your four years,” she said.
After a night of dancing and hanging out with fellow seniors, students were ready to end this chapter of their lives and start a new one. Hopefully, these seniors chase their dreams and remember the memories they made that night.
Senior Tyler Pierre summed up what makes senior prom such an important night for his graduating class.
“We are here to celebrate the seniorhood, and have a great send off to all the wild memories in our past four years.”
