Top 10 Places to Study

Top+10+Places+to+Study
Abigail Carsner

Studying at home can be difficult. Whether it’s because of lack of silence, lack of motivation, or lack of ability to resist going straight to sleep, there is always a solution. So if you need a place to bring your backpack directly after school and focus on nothing but the chromebook or papers in front of you, here is a list of places you can go, ranked from worst to best.

10. Friends’ House

Set at last, studying at a friend’s house has got to be the worst option. There are so many distractions. It’s an irresponsible decision to study at a friend’s house, if you think about it. There would be way too much talking and not enough working. Especially if they have a dog, which is all just another reason to not do your homework at all. Who could ignore a cute dog to do work? No thanks. Nobody has that type of self-restraint.

9. A Concert

This would have been last if it weren’t for the nice, live performance of your favorite singer. Despite the lovely music, there are no tables to place your work and there’s NO WAY you can concentrate on whatever algebra work you have to complete, which could be a blessing or a curse depending on how you feel about math. Personally, I went to a —- concert but

8. The Library

Whenever I study at the library, it is too quiet. If that works for you, great, but this is a heavily opinionated list so this is my experience. I’m left alone with my thoughts when studying at the library, which is not good. It’s too quiet, which makes my thoughts too loud. Then, I start stressing out, which is when I stop working on my homework and start crying.

7. The Park

Next on this list is the park. The nice scenic view of nature and the tranquil mixture of birds chirping and cars passing by will never block out the vexing sound of kids screaming. Ideally, the park would be the perfect place to study. Picnic tables, a nice breeze, and the smell of nature, who wouldn’t want to study there? Me, because when it’s mixed with kids screaming and mosquitos biting you, it’s incredibly unpleasant.

6. A Car

Sometimes, when you’re on the go and you have a time-sensitive assignment due soon, you have to do what you have to do. In the car, you probably won’t have any surfaces to write about unless you get creative, and if the car is moving, things could get bumpy. This could be frustrating to deal with. Personally, I was getting ready to throw my bookbag out the window.

5. A Construction Site

I was shocked at this one. When I had stumbled upon that muddy construction site on Germantown Ave, I thought I had found the place. It was surprisingly very dirty. No idea why. The site was very loud and there were big machines everywhere. I tried doing my work there but the dirt kept getting in my eye. I got 2 assignments done before almost getting hit in the head with a metal rod. Wear a hard hat if you decide to study here.

4. A Funeral

Like before, when you’re in a hurry and need to get your work done, you have to do what you have to do. It is not an ideal place to study, of course. You’re there to pay your respects, yes, but maybe your teacher doesn’t take any excuses. When studying, you won’t really have a place to put your laptop and papers, as you’ll be sitting on a bench in a church, but at least it is quiet with a nice piano instrumental in the background as you work! Again, not an ideal place to study, but it could get the job done if you try hard enough.

3. The Woods

I was originally terrified of the idea of studying in the woods. I had no choice, however, so in a desperate attempt to leave the house to get at least some work done, I walked to my backyard and found a spot between two trees. One downside is the bugs, which I’m sure is a problem bug spray could fix. Other than that, it offers a calm place to study with the sound of nature surrounding you. You’re all alone, so no distractions. Be sure not to stay out too late, as it could be dangerous to stay in the woods late at night.

2. Panera Bread

Panera Bread is a bakery-cafe that can offer a cozy, idealistic place to study. Everyone there minds their business and is most likely there to study as well, seeing as Panera is a popular study spot. The smells of their soups and sweets can comfort you as you are most likely on the verge of breakdown, staring at your geometry homework. I would avoid their Charged Sips, seeing it has enough caffeine in them to cause a heart attack from one sip.

1. Dunkin Donuts

Lastly, at the top of my list is Dunkin Donuts. It has a mostly quiet atmosphere with seating and tables to work on. Their menu offers a variety of food options, with somewhat reasonable pricing. In my own experiences, rarely anyone eats in Dunkin, so it’ll be interruption free. In my opinion, Dunkin is one of the perfect places to study.
