Anime V. Cartoons

Luis Parker, Staff Reporter

As kids, we watched television to entertain ourselves. Shows like Spongebob Squarepants, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and much more is what kept us busy. We were never introduced to anime at a young age though. For that, many may question if it’s better or not better than cartoons.
The truth is, cartoons nor anime is better than each other. Anime is a Japanese style cartoon while the U.S considers cartoons just cartoons. (anime.stackexchange.com) What region you’re in may see a difference in the two. In Japan, if you watch anime you could be seen as any other but if you watch anime in the U.S, you’re considered weird. It’s based on preference.
Cartoons and Anime can be for anyone in a huge variety of series to watch. If you’re into cars, “Initial D” may be for you. The show is based solely on cars and drifting. If you want to watch something wacky, “Courage The Cowardly Dog” is a good cartoon to watch. It features a purple/pink dog that goes through different scenarios of his weird and wacky life. Whatever you’re into, there is a show for you to enjoy.
If you’re worried about age, don’t be. Cartoons and anime can be for all ages. In the U.S, there is a channel dedicated to cartoons called “cartoon network,” which during the day is for children and after 9pm, the channel is for adults to enjoy. In Japan, the people there watch animes on different channels for age or their preference.
So anime and cartoons aren’t better than each other, but rather different styles. So it doesn’t matter which one you watch because it doesn’t change anything besides expanding your choices. Check out some shows for yourself to enjoy.
