A Night Senior Students won’t Forget

On March 9, 2017 many talented NAHS gentleman of the class of 2017 competed to earn the crown of the next Mr.Norristown. As is often the case during the Mr. Norristown, the audience was enthusiastic and ready for the show. During the performances, the audience sang along, clapped to the beat, “ROAR”ed, and even added the flash to with their phones.

Not only were there students from NAHS among the crowd, but some were from other high schools as well. All were eager to see each contestant show off their everyday and beach attire, perform a practiced act, and answer a series of pageant-like questions.

Each contestant’s performances were all around interesting and engaging. Craig Lacy dropped some lines in an original rap. Thaddeus Peay wowed the audience with his drum work. Aquil Hayes performed a unique dance number, and Eric Henry shared his talent on the alto saxophone. One peculiar performance by Mike Berkowitz, was said to be a class project and included Berkowitz standing on stage and saying “Roar” repeatedly. Even this was met with reciprocated roars from the audience and is said to have earned him an A on the project. While Berkowitz’s performance may have left some judges befuddled, most were outright impressed.

There may be some who think going to see student performances makes for a boring evening. However, that’s rarely been the case in the past years that Mr. Norristown has been running. All over social media teens from NAHS and students from different schools posted tweets, instas, and snaps during and after the show. This year’s organizers even added a customized “Mr. Norristown 2017” filter as a fun, promotional tool for the event.

In addition, faculty and administration, even those outside the circle of organizers and judges, were found attending and enjoying the event. Judges this year included: Mr. Willis, Mrs. McDermott, Ms. Boyle, Mrs. Hertzog, Ms. Cruz, Mr. Wangia, and last year’s winner Milo Dominguez (class of 2016).

It was a very hard decision for the judges to choose who would be crowned Mr. Norristown 2017. To give the judges a few moments to confer, the GIP dance group performed only adding to the anticipation of the audience and the contestants awaiting the final results. All the audience had phones out ready to record.
In the end, Craig Lacy won the title of Mr. Norristown 2017, but no one left disappointed. In the weeks of planning the twelve young men supported each other and the organizers from Blue and White Society as well as Student Council. All of the money raised from the Mr. Norristown event is donated to a general fund for the NAHS community.
