On March 6, Nancy Reagan, former First Lady, passed away due to a heart failure in Los Angeles. Many politicians will mourn the loss and they will always remember her. President Obama and his wife even stated that they were “fortunate to benefit from her proud example”. Nancy Reagan has left behind a big legacy.

From 1981-89 she was one of the most influential first ladies in US history. “My life really began when I married my husband,” said Nancy Reagan, who gave up her acting career in the 1950’s to be the wife of Ronald Reagan and take care of her children. She was initially criticized for her redecoration of the White House and expensive spending, but she gradually was recognized for her working. She was most known for her anti-drug “Just Say No” campaign. Nancy worked with many charitable groups while her husband was in office. She spent many hours visiting veterans, the elderly, and the emotionally and physically handicapped. Many people were interested in her becoming the First Lady. She gave her support to the Foster Grandparent Program, and made in a book in 1982, To Love A Child. Nancy also worked on a fight against drug and alcohol use among young people. She visited and helped prevention and rehabilitation places, and wanted other countries to get involved.

At her funeral, many kind words were shared about her. Her kids claimed that, “She did love a party, and she would want this to be a party”. Nancy Reagan will be laid beside her husband Ronald Reagan at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.
