I went into the Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor expecting it to be extremely unique and I was not disappointed. This world was so abstract and so different than any other fantasy world I have ever read about. I was nervous going into it that the world would be too much for me to follow and that I wouldn’t enjoy it because I would be so confused. That was certainly not the case. I was enraptured by the first page and was so curious to know what was going to happen next. During a good chunk of the book, you don’t know much of what is happening and have so many questions about the characters and the plot that you are really frustrated not having any answers. However, towards the end when you get all the answers you had been waiting for, you finally understand which makes it difficult not to be in awe of the author.

Everything was plotted out so well and all the pieces of the puzzle fit together so that by the end of the story, I was just so surprised with how much I loved this book. The characters were great and I loved how unique they were from any other characters in young-adult fiction I had read abou t before.

The main character is a seventeen year old girl with naturally blue hair and has teeth that grant her wishes. I know that sounds weird and I would explain more about the plot, but that would end up with me spoiling the entire book and you do not want that. Anyways, I enjoyed the romance between the main couple and how it was built up so nicely and wasn’t forced on you. I love both of the main characters separately, and together they are even better. The setting of the novel was another thing that I really enjoyed. I had never read about a book set in Prague before and had never seen a picture of it, so when I looked it up I was wowed by how beautiful it was. The author did a great job of describing the setting, especially considering how accurate she was to reality. There is so much I could gush over about this book, but I’ll spare you. All I have left to say is: READ IT! You won’t regret it in the end.
