Life of Andrew Lindsay Lewis Jr

Andrew Lindsay Lewis Jr was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on November 3rd 1931, and passed away on Wednesday February 10th 2016 in Prescott Arizona at the age of 84. His death was due to complications of pneumonia. Drew was a Norristown graduate whom served as U.S. transportation secretary under president Ronald Reagan during the 1981 air traffic controllers strike. He was a self-made millionaire, business executive, politician, philanthropist, and a driving force in Montgomery county. Wen Reagan won he appointed Mr. Lewis to lead role on the presidential team, then as secretary of transportation. Lewis earned degrees from Haverford and Harvard University’s business school. In 1974 he ran for governor but lost to Milton Shapp. He was arrested twice for drunken-driving charges in 1995 and 2001 and underwent treatment for alchohol abuse. Lewis married his wife, Marilyn Lewis in 1950. They had four children, one of whom died in infancy. She later served as a state representative. After leaving government he became chairman and chief executive officer of Warner Amex Cable Communications Inc.
