Lady Gaga Review

Lady Gaga as you may know, sung the national anthem at the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 7. She won rave reviews for her performance; nearly everyone liked her performance, but me. I personally did not like her performance because I felt like she did too much. The national anthem is meant to be sung simple. I’m not saying that doing runs, when a singer starts off at a very high note and drops quickly through the scale down to a very low note within a second or two, is extra because I think it is okay within reason. What I mean by too much is her tone of voice, the way it changed throughout the whole song. Her voice went from soulful to opera and then back to soulful. She did that with her voice one too many times, which was not at all necessary.

When I sing the national anthem, I sing it with a little twist, I add runs here and there, but the one thing I don’t change is my tone. You are not suppose to change your tone, which is exactly what Lady Gaga did in her performance and the reason why I disliked it. A lot of people may agree or disagree, but it must be understood that changing your tone in the national anthem is a big no no. Please do not do it. Reviews even say that Lady Gaga’s performance was better than Whitney Houston, which is by far a big fat lie because that performance went down in history as the best performance ever. No one has and never will top Whitney Houston’s 1991 performance at the 25th super bowl. Lady Gaga is a great singer nevertheless, but I felt as though her performance was not up to par and she could have done much better. Better luck next time.
