Long Standing Student vs. Teacher Bowling Tournament

The NAHS student vs. teacher bowling tournament will take place on Monday, February 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Facenda Whitaker Lanes. This tournament has been going on for more than 20 years. From 2005 to 2012 the student teams have dominated the teachers teams. During this time the boys team were the conference champs six times while the girl’s team was second in the conference five times. Since then the matches have been a lot closer. Both the boys and girls teams this year are stronger than the previous year’s teams.

The boys’ varsity co-captains are senior Steve Karwoski and junior Dylan Copestick (204 average). Other players are junior Mike Bertowitz (163 average), sophomore Greg Sontag (154 average), sophomore Charleton Moore-Sweet and freshman Elijah Stoudemire (166 average). The girls’ varsity team co-captains are both seniors, Chrissy Rose (183 average) and Krystine O’Conner (113 average). The rest of the girls team consists of senior Malika Dorsey (113 average), senior Brandy Gipe (110 average), senior Jaylin Sloan, and freshman Patricia Poley (148 average). Unfortunately, the girls could be one player short due to one of their players work schedule.

Coach DiNenno, the gifted teacher, has been getting teachers to sign up. Coach Johnson, a retired math teacher, loves the competition of bowling and she enjoys helping others learn the sport of bowling. Coach Johnson believes it is fun to watch a beginner improve each week because the better they get the more they want to continue to improve. Coach Johnson says that “rarely is a bowler satisfied to say, okay I’m good enough. I don’t need to work on my game any more.”
