On the evening of November 13, seven locations in Paris were targeted by terrorists. Three teams of individuals carried out the attacks, and all were heavily armed and wearing vests packed with explosives. In total about 132 people were killed through means of gunfire and suicide bombing. In addition, there were many more people harmed and injured severely, some due to hostage situations.

According to French President Francois Hollande, the Paris attacks were planned in Syria and organized in Belgium. Authorities have stated that there may be one suspect involved in the attacks that is still on the loose.

There was a suicide bombing at Stade de France at 9:20 PM where the French President was located. At 9:25 PM a shooting occurred at a small restaurant, Le Petit Cambodge. People claimed that the attackers were masked and came in a black vehicle. At Bataclan, a theater, attackers entered with rifles shouting, “Allah akbar”, meaning God is greater.  Two of the attackers used their suicide belts as police entered. At least 89 people were killed, not including the attackers, during this singular attack. In addition, many other pubs had been attacked that day too.

These atrocities have left the world wondering why France is being assailed. It is widely understood that terrorists are individuals who impose their ideas onto others through intimidation and fear. France just happened to be one of the many counties that are included in the mess.

Despite the destruction the attacks have caused, they have pulled support from around the globe. “This is an attack not just on Paris, not just on the people on France, but an attack on all humanity and the universal values we share”, Obama says, offering his condolences and assistance in the investigation. He called the attacks an “outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians.” The Eiffel Tower was lit in the color of the French flag to show that they will stand strong. French President Hollande has said that these shootings and bombings are an “act of war” and France will get their revenge saying, “We will lead the fight, and we will be ruthless”.

However, it has also spurred fear in other European countries since ISIS released a video promising more attacks.
