Dress Codes

The school year has started and that means wearing new clothes that you got over the summer. Many schools have dress codes that are barbaric and unfair. Students have been taken out of classes because of dress code infractions. Students are being robbed of their education for dress code violations that aren’t fair. Young ladies and women are being told that they are distracting to their male counterparts. This is the 21st century, not the Victorian Era, women should be able to wear what they want without being shamed.
At a school in north Colorado a large percentage of the girls at the school stood out, boycotted, and did not follow the dress code at all! All of them were suspended for 3 days which consisted of 75% of the female population, that shows how ridiculous this dress code is. Dress codes could simply prevent students from wearing shorts or skirts an inch  shorter than the mandatory length or tank tops with straps that are not thick enough. They say this is a “distraction” for boys, but why should girls be punished for boys’ promiscuous thoughts and behaviors? It’s the 21 first century, girls should be able to wear whatever they want and not feel shamed or punished for it! This is a disgrace and clearly disrespect for women and our rights and it shows that women just have to fight harder to stand up for themselves and their respect.
A student at Woodford County High School was told that she couldn’t wear these clothes. This student was told that she could not show her collarbones because it is a distraction to the male students. When the student’s mother was called to pick up her daughter from school because of this violation she saw many other females at the principal’s office for similar infractions. “This is ridiculous! Woodford County High School and the principle have been enforcing a dress code where us girls can not show even their collar bones because it may distract their male classmates,” she wrote on Facebook. “Parents are being called away from their important jobs and students are missing important class time because they are showing their collarbones! Something needs to change!” On the next day, this mom helped her daughter and her friends launch a petition to change their school’s dress code.
Students should not be called from important class time! Something needs to change, immediately. If you feel the same way and feel as though this generation needs to change use this link and sign up for the petition to end this epidemic of disrespect on females bodies and the shame that comes along with disobeying the dress codes!
