Autism Awareness Month Brings a Chance to Inform and Educate
What exactly is Autism? According to www.autismspeaks.org, which is a website fully dedicated to those who want to know more about Autism, it is a serious developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. Statistics have been shown that 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Those with Autism suffer many difficult challenges, which include repetitive behavior, genetic disorders, and communication difficulties.
April is National Autism Awareness Month. It was launched by the Autism Society of America. This time of the year is used to promote Autism awareness and help others understand and accept those with Autism. Tens of thousands of people face an Autism diagnosis every year. National Autism Awareness Month is celebrated with online event and activities, local events, and presidential or congressional declarations. The more the public is aware of Autism, more people will accept it and treat those with Autism with kindness. Also, just by simply wearing mismatched socks, it will show your support for people with Autism.
During an interview, Ed Asner, an actor, talked about his son having autism. “The child has been blessed. These are special people. They are very special. And we must take the time to appreciate them, to cultivate them and enjoy them.” In some cases of Autism, the person will act a different way and that can be an amazing thing. It would be boring to live in a world where people acted the same way, and people with autism have a unique way of thinking that should be rewarded and looked at beautifully.
