The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu

Hulu, a video streaming service, announced a series adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Atwood’s original piece is “set in a dystopian future, where a woman is forced to live as a concubine under a fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship”(IMDb.com).
Among the students at NAHS, those in AP Literature have read this novel. The mini series will be available for viewing on April 26th.. Rebekah Wilford, a senior, stated that the book itself was “very interesting and has a lot of ties to modern society.” She then expressed her weariness of reading a novel and watching the adaptations that follow it. Alyssa Scanlon, also known as a movie connoisseur, stated that the “cinematography looks pretty good.” She then went on to say that “the characters don’t look how I imagined them, but I will still watch the show.” The opinions of those who were unaware about the book were then interviewed. Brandon Rodriguez, a junior who has never read the book, spoke of his confusion and then stated “It’s everywhere”. Brandon declined to read the book, while others were intrigued and they said they would venture to read the book.
