No One will Snooze Through this Spring Spirit Week at NAHS!
February 28, 2017
There was nothing sleepy about the first day of the 2017 Spring Spirit Week on Monday, February 27. This is the second Spirit Week of the school year organized by the Blue and White Society. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to participate in theme days throughout the week: Monday is Pajama Day; Tuesday is Twin Day; Wednesday is Superhero Day; Thursday is Decade Day; Friday, of course, is Blue and White Day.
On Monday morning, students, teachers, and staff were dressed in their most comfy pajamas, slippers, and even robes as they entered from the cold February morning. Many sleepwear fashions featured some favorite characters from movies, video games, and cartoons while others were full-on animal costumes with ears and tails. Some who had less in the cozy PJ attire wore sleep masks, fuzzy slippers, or robes to show their support for this crazy week of NAHS spirit. “No sleepers in class” did not apply on this Monday and there was something magical happening as students gathered for photos with friends and teachers. Even a unicorn was spotted trotting through the hallways of NAHS as students exchanged comparisons and compliments on outfits with friends and teachers.
The halls were littered with twins on Tuesday. Students paired with friends and even teachers to double the trouble. Some siblings and twins dressed alike as they may have in elementary school or on special holidays, but most simply tried to match outfits. The largest group of multiples in the school on Tuesday had to be the ladies of the World Language Department who pulled out all their western gear for this spirited theme.
Students were zipping through the hallways with super speed and agility on Wednesday as the majority of the student body and staff donned their capes and leotards for Superhero Day. Even Exclamation Man made an appearance in room 326 as Wonder Woman was guarding the other end of the hallway.
Thursday brought us flashbacks all the way into the B.C. era. Hippies filled the school with peace and love. Pop addicts from the 80s showed off their denim-on-denim looks and fashionable leg warmers. In addition, greasers from the 50s and hard core grunge fans from the 90s joined the hallways. Two favorites of the day seemed to be Mr. Schafer’s depiction of Moses from the 1440s B.C. and Jessica Yates (11th grade) iconic portrayal of Rosie the Riveter.
