Spanish Students Go on a “Field Trip”
May 5, 2016
Mrs. Regan’s and Mrs. Cesena’s Spanish III and IV students channeled their artistic side on May 4th while painting in the school’s cafeteria for a Hispanic art project. Both teachers’ classes have been learning about artists and types of art from different Spanish speaking countries. With the help of the hostess, Mrs. Regan, everything went smoothly and the students had fun working with some visiting artists, Mrs. Regan’s aunts Diana Klinger and Camille Fala, and our own Dr. Kirker and Mrs. Ogiony as well.
Mrs. Regan and Mrs. Cesena began planning this integrated curriculum project last spring and secured the funding for the materials through a small grant from the Norristown Area Education Foundation (NAEF).
The session began with students choosing from the works of various Hispanic artists. Students selected one painting each based on what appealed to each individual participant. During the two hour period, students worked with acrylic paints to mimic the painting using their own talents and techniques. The results were thrilling for both the students and the onlookers.
