To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Review
May 17, 2016
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, by Jenny Han thoroughly surprised me. Going into it, I knew about the premise of the story, but didn’t know how cute and fun it would be in the end. The novel is about a teenager Lara Jean who writes love letters to all the boys she has loved before, but which she intends for no one else to read but her. It turns out that somehow the letters get sent out to the boys and from then on things get really interesting with the plot which cause a lot of entertaining drama for the main character. I thought that the story would only be about that and how that affects her life, but the story had so much more to it.
The relationships in the story were an aspect that I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I did. I found her relationship with her family so fun and relatable since I have an older and younger sister as well and know what that can be like. I thought the author did a really great job at portraying that in the story and it didn’t feel forced to me. Another relationship that I really enjoyed was the one Lara Jean had with another character, Peter. I knew there was going to be some romance in the story, but I didn’t think I would like them together. Their interactions would cause me to be smile every time they conversed.
Another thing about the book that I found refreshing, and who I ended up enjoying, was the main character. In a lot of books out there you can find rather annoying protagonists that make stupid decisions that make the story less enjoyable, but that wasn’t the case for this book. I think Lara Jean was a great character and she was a person I could see myself being friends with if she were real. Overall, I could just gush about a whole bunch of things about the book, but the bottom line is that you should pick it up and enjoy it for yourself. While you’re at it, you should purchase the second book too, which I devoured after I flew through the first one. You won’t regret reading this.
