UNIDAD’s second soccer tournament, which was the most well attended of the year, took place on Friday, April 1. It was held from 5:30-10:00 p.m. It was way longer than others from the past. The cost per person was three dollars, and snacks and drinks were sold. There was also face painting for any children who attended. There were 23 teams in total which was way more than there’d been before. This time one of our principals volunteered to pay for one of the teams. Mr. Ellias, one of the gym teachers here at NAHS, was the referee. There were six players in total including the goalie on each team, and the teams were allowed to choose their outfits and colors. Any teams that had the same color or outfit were given pinnies to wear. No cleats were permitted since the tournament was indoors, making it sneakers only.

The time of each game depended on how many teams there were, and since there were a lot, each game was about seven minutes, but when it came to the finals they were ten minutes long. Some teams had long breaks which lasted as long as 40 minutes. People that did not attend NAHS were also welcome to participate in the tournament such as the Montgomery Community College soccer team, for example. There were three winning teams which were, Paris St. Germain, Los Lobos, and 2 Lit Crew. Those teams each won a trophy and each member was given their own individual medal. The money that was raised by this even went towards the Annie Rivera Scholarship Fund, which was a total of 785 dollars. In addition, UNIDAD also received a generous donation from U-sports making this fundraiser well done.
