Primark: The Hype
December 10, 2015
For weeks, all I heard around school was that this new store that was opening over at the King of Prussia Mall. At first I had no idea what all these people were talking about. WHAT NEW STORE!? So I decided to go to the mall and see what all the hype was about. As soon as I arrived I noticed a big wall of glass windows and big TV screens. On top was a giant blue sign that read “PRIMARK”. Yet I still had no idea why there was such a big hype about this store. So of course, I simply Googled it. I found out that Primark is a fashion retail company of Irish origin that was founded by Arthur Ryan in 1969. It first operated under the name of Penneys. Although Primark has been established all around the globe, this is only the second store opening in the United States since its first on September 10. However, I still did not get what all the hype was about! Was it because this was their second opening?
Grand opening came around and I unfortunately was not able to make it until later that night. Coming in from the parking lot entrance I was greeted filled with Christmas wear, decorations, and of course, Starwars wear. In front of me was a giant screen displaying models with the latest outfits from Primark.
Once I got downstairs I took a look around and thought to myself, “Wow this place is huge!”. I didn’t even know where to start. Just from walking around I happen to notice that their layout was really great. All the different departments were really well placed so you can easily find what you are looking for. The fitting rooms are very cozy and the clothes themselves are very comfortable. Yet the material feels somewhat thin, similar to that of H&M and Forever21, but then again this is a retail store for everyone. That night being my first time buying from Primark, I only got a few shirts and jeans just to try things out.
A few days later I went back with my girlfriend to get some clothes for an upcoming New York trip. The catch was that we both had a $50 budget to find an outfit that had a New York fashion feel. We looked around for a little over an hour, browsing items all around the large store. In the end I came out with a dark blue thin sweater($16), a pair of dark blue jeans($15), and also a pair of light brown oxford wingtips($21). Yes I know I went over budget. What my girlfriend decided to get was a pink blouse($15), a tan turtleneck($9), khaki colored jeggings($10), as well as a pair of jeans($13). The clothes feel incredibly comfortable, especially the jeans since they are made of a stretchy material. Walking around all day in rainy New York did not feel so bad in the Oxford wingtips.
After all, I began to understand why people were extremely hype about this place; it is a store where you can get fashionable clothing that won’t break the bank! If you have not done so, go check the store out. What are you waiting for? Go! Just beware that you will likely come out with a bag or two more than you planned.
