El Chapo Is Being Hunted Down!

Nina Summers, Staff Reporter

Joaquin Guzman, also known as “El Chapo”, is a drug lord and leader of Sinaloa Cartel. He was named after the Mexican Pacific coast state of Sinaloa where it was formed. Interestingly enough, in El Chapo’s early years, his father was also a drug trader. After being kicked out of the house at an early age and with only little schooling in his background he found himself following his father’s path and growing marijuana for small amounts of money. He later became Mexico’s top drug kingpin in 2003 after the arrest of his rival Osiel Cardenas of the Gulf Cartel, and is considered the “most powerful drug trafficker in the world” by the United States department of treasure. Guzmán was captured in 1993 in Guatemala, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison in Mexico for murder and drug trafficking. After bribing prison guards, he was able to escape from a federal maximum-security prison in 2001. He was wanted by the governments of Mexico and the United States, and by INTERPOL. He had escaped that jail for the 2nd time. He was wanted ever since 2001 (prior to 2014 incarceration).

The United States and Mexico have interest in finding him. There are two rewards out for El Chapo one in Mexico which is willing to pay 3.8 million dollars and one in the United States which is willing to pay 5 million dollars to reward whoever finds him. Good Luck.
