This past Tuesday, the Eagles Men’s Varsity soccer team played their final home game against the Owen J. Roberts Wildcats on their Senior Recognition Night. The following night, the Eagles Women’s Varsity Soccer team faced the Pottstown Trojans on their Senior Recognition Night.
The men’s game kicked off with all of their seniors being walked out and congratulated by the crowd. Seniors Steve Ruiz, Alexis Zurita, Ishmael Kromah, Moises Salina, Luis Sanchez, Erikson Tlehualctle, Freddy Cordero, and Diego Rojo were recognized by Norristown pre-game for their efforts for the team over the years.
Though the Wildcats had taken down the Eagles 3-1 a month prior, the Eagles had the home crowd edge, and refused to back down, especially in one of their most important games of the season.
The Eagles and Wildcats played a very physical game, with multiple fouls and yellow cards. The game went scoreless in the first half, but after halftime, the Wildcats scored in the 46th and 51st minute. Norristown played a dominant game and held control for the majority, but they weren’t able to score at any point and dropped the game 2-0.
This would be the last home game of the season, and the last home game ever for the seniors, and though it is sad that the Eagles weren’t able to bring Norristown a win, they had had an amazing season so far with a 10-7-1 record and looked to end the season strong against their final opponent the Methacton Warriors
As for the women’s game, they would walk onto home field the next day for their senior recognition night. Seniors Jocelyn Campos Juarez, Sanah Ashé Mays, Kimberlyn Corona Cruz, Monserrat Lopez Silverio, Yareli Lopez, Daniela Moreno Piscil, and Valerie Poblete were announced and walked, being given respect for their efforts for Norristown Soccer.
The Eagles would be playing the Trojans for their Senior Recognition game, which gave them the edge as they had beaten them 9-2 on the road earlier in the season. The Eagles dominated the game once again, being able to keep the Trojans scoreless, while Norristown’s Angelina Delgado scored in the 29th and 89th minute. With this, the Eagles picked up their third win of the season and their second against Pottstown, beating them 2-0.
Both the men’s and women’s soccer seasons have come to a close. The men’s soccer team played out their final game against Methacton, beating them 2-0 to end off the season. The women’s soccer team played two more games; The first at home against Upper Merion, which they lost 5-0, and their last game against Penn Wood, in which they closed out the season in a 8-0 shut-out win against the Patriots on the road.
