Walking into this past Friday’s game with a 1-4 record and on a three-game losing streak, the Eagles had a lot of weight on their shoulders. They were already halfway through their season and had only picked up one win against the Phoenixville Phantoms. They would host the Owen J. Roberts Wildcats in another conference game. A loss here would solidify a losing season for the Eagles.
Though the Eagles would start strong after the Wildcats muffed the kickoff, the Wildcats would quickly move the ball up the field. Eventually, they would break through for a 46-yard rushing touchdown and score the one-point conversion. The Wildcats’ lead would snowball from that point on, with the Eagles’ struggling to find their footing to climb their way back.
The Eagles’ defensive struggles were on display at many points in the game. The Wildcats’ Receivers were left unchecked on a multitude of plays, leading to major yardage being gained or to the Wildcats scoring. Whether it was confusion with coverage, formations, or plays, we don’t know, but if the Eagles want to make their season worth it, it has to be fixed.
The Eagles also struggled to stop the Wildcats’ running game at crucial points. For example, the nightmare start for the Wildcats turned into a 46-yard rushing touchdown. Early in the 3rd quarter, the Wildcats’ quarterback would scramble for a 75-yard rushing touchdown. Overall, the Eagles’ defense let up 46 points; solutions need to be found for these mistakes if the Eagles want current or future success.
The Eagles’ offense had their struggles, but performed well in the end. They put up 19 points altogether, three touchdowns and a one-point conversion. Wide Receiver Joseph Melonson scored a 67-yard rushing touchdown in the beginning of the 2nd quarter to put the first points on the board for the Eagles, as well as the one-point conversion. Running back Cyan Greene scored a 25-yard receiving touchdown with only a minute left in the 3rd quarter. In the final minutes of the 4th quarter, running back Cayden Harp scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown.
Overall, Friday’s game was one of the oddest games in the Eagles’ season. The Wildcats were the Eagles’ 4th highest ranked opponent on their schedule, behind Bayard Rustin, Perkiomen Valley, and Boyertown. They also had the best record in the Pioneer-Liberty conference prior to the game(4-1), and after(5-1).
As for the Eagles, Friday’s game claimed the record for the most points the Eagles let up in a singular game for the 2025-2026 football season. It is the 4th highest points the Eagles have scored in a game this season behind the quadruple-overtime season opener against Penn Wood(40-32), their only win this season against Phoenixville(20-0), and their battle with Kennett(31-22).
The Eagles’ losing streak still stands with their loss against the Wildcats. If they can’t fix the problems that linger in both the offense and defense, the streak will only grow in the season’s final games. Hopefully, the Eagles can improve on struggles and manage victories in the games.
Looking beyond Friday’s game, only three opponents remain in the season for the Eagles. Again, all of these will be against fellow teams in the Pioneer-Liberty conference; those being Methacton, Perkiomen Valley, and Boyertown. Though hopes for a winning season have faded away, the Eagles will continue to fight and try their hardest to pick up wins against the remaining opponents in the season.
