In recent years, every day now seems to be a national day. For example, on June 6, we randomly celebrate National Donut Day and on August 10, someone may remind you it’s National Lazy Day. Although we don’t celebrate every single national day (or even most of them), it is fun to embrace the ones we do know about.
Have you ever wondered why we have so many national days, or even how all of this national day stuff all started?
In the United States Of America, there actually isn’t one specific group of people that decides or designates what national days become actual national days. Most of these national days are created by private groups, companies, or just everyday working people.
Private groups can create their own unique national days to make more sales; they just won’t count as official federal holidays like Christmas or Veterans Day, but if Dunkin’ Donuts can advertise National Donut Day, maybe they can sell a few more munchkins.
One example of a private group that makes these actually calls itself the The National Day Calendar. The National Day Calendar is a website that lists almost every single national day there is in the United States, from National Ants On a Log Day (September 10th) to National Bald is Beautiful Day (September 13th).
The National Day Calendar was created by a guy named Marlo Anderson, who is the founder and CRO. The National Day Calendar was started on National Popcorn Day in 2013 and has been distributing all the National Day information ever since. While it’s not very serious, the group seems to have so much passion in finding information for these national days so it can bring laughter and smiles to everyday people and find a reason to celebrate every day of the year.
